Are You Stuck in a Rut?

Are you stuck in a rut and looking for a couple of new book ideas for your preschoolers? Check out these titles all about getting stuck or having to wait. These books are filled with rhyming and repeating phrases which help young children make those verbal connections stronger. Also, because rhyming words and repeating phrases are easier to catch on to, you'll find your preschooler joining in the out loud reading with you upon multiple visits to the same story.

Duck in the Truck by Jez Alborough
Duck drives this truck straight into a mucky patch of mud and it takes the help of several other animals to get the truck going again. Jez Alborough has several Duck books in this series, but this is the best one in my opinion. (Ages 2-5)

The Bridge Is Up! by Babs Bell
This bridge is up and causes a lot of vehicles to have to wait. Those kids who love transportation will love all the different wheels in this book. And what's fun is that you can use this one to recite out loud without the book - but change the characters who have to wait. A good way to use up five minutes of grocery line time while you have to wait! (Ages 2-5)

My Truck Is Stuck by Kevin Lewis
Rotten luck, can't go, my truck is stuck! This rhythmic, bouncy tale tells of a dump truck that gets stuck on the road and the series of passersby who try to help. Another winner from Kevin Lewis and Daniel Kirk (see also Chugga Chugga Choo Choo), this book also touches on some beginning counting. (Ages 3-6)

Truck Stuck by Sallie Wolf
